Bill Lawrence, creator of the acclaimed sitcom Scrubs, which ran from 2001 to 2009, has revealed that a reunion movie is "inevitable."
In a recent interview with Variety, Lawrence gave an exciting update on bringing the beloved cast back together at Sacred Heart hospital.
“I think it’s inevitable that it happens. The joke of it with us is the first time that six months go by that we don’t hang out, we’ll end up doing a Scrubs reunion," he said.
“In the greatest way, the cast of that show and the writers are so good that they’re all working. And the main reason to do something like that isn’t the work, it’s because we actually love hanging out."
awrence’s desire to bring back the medical comedy have been well-documented. His recent comments echo similar remarks he made at the Scrubs reunion panel at last year’s ATX Television Festival.
“We’re going to do it because we’re lucky enough people care,” he said. “If you’re lucky enough to be able to work with the people you love, run to it.”
Scrubs stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison host a podcast dedicated to the series called Fake Doctors Real Friends, where the two reminisce about episodes, bringing other cast-members on from time to time.
Faison said at last year's panel: "I think we all kinda want it. We would all love to work together again. It’s just really hard. It can’t be a full season of a show. It would have to be a movie or something." Pointing to Lawrence, the actor added, "This dude is never going to be free again.”
Lawrence has been in high demand over the last few years. The Scrubs creator is also the mind behind the much-loved Ted Lasso, which returned for its third season this month on Apple TV+. His other series, Shrinking, starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segal was renewed for a second season this month.
The 54-year-old is also heading another Apple TV+ project in the near future named Bad Monkey, starring Vince Vaughn as a one-time detective demoted to restaurant inspector in Southern Florida.
