Several welcomed the move from the show, and its decision to introduce LGBT characters.
One person tweeted: "No one's talking abt for peppa pig now has two lesbian polar bears? I find it very sweet that peeps pig is lgbtq friendly."
Another user said: "Ok imma start by saying I have a 4 yr old cousin lol… THERE ARE LESBIAN MOMS IN PEPPA PIG????? adult shows struggle to do representation and peppa pig are just out here giving us lesbian polar bears???"
But others weren't so pleased with the introduction of same-sex couples to the show.
One person wrote: "Peppa pig has or is about to introduce a new friend with mummy and mummy!! I mean FFS! I have no problem with LGBT etc but what I do have a problem with is this s**t being drummed into them when they're toddlers, stop confusing them and let them be kids."

This isn't the only example of children's TV shows looking to be more representative of society.
Thomas & Friends recently announced that it would be introducing its first autistic character later this month.
The BBC reports that Bruno the Brake Car will be voiced by nine-year-old Elliott Garcia, who is himself autistic.
The National Autistic Society helped cast the boy from Reading, who will voice the "joyful, pun-making brake car."

Bruno the brake car has been 'carefully curated to ensure an accurate fictional representation of autism' according to Mattel (Mattel)[/caption]
The character will appear in episodes of the show from September 21, and was developed by American toy giant Mattel. The company said Bruno's characteristics have been created with "respected" autism groups.
The engine is detail-oriented, has a lantern to indicate his emotional state and enjoys schedules and routine.
His ear defenders can also puff steam if he feels sensitive to loud noises.
