Understandably, fans were hungry for the uncut version. After a fall-out with Scooter Braun in 2019, Swift announced that she would re-record her first six albums because her old label, Big Machine Records, sold the master recordings to the music manager, seemingly without her consent. That led to 2021's re-recorded Red album - Swift's version - which included a couple of extra songs "from the vault" that didn't originally make the cut. It was on this album where fans got to listen to the uncut 10-minute version of 'All Too Well'. The song was accompanied by a short film that she directed starring Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, Dylan O’Brien and Swift. There was particular emphasis on a red scarf in the short, that Sadie pointedly leaves at Dylan’s house, and is never reunited with. The song is about a 21-year-old woman who is shattered after a breakup with an older boyfriend. The track mentions a scarf that the singer apparently left at the house of her ex-lover’s sister, and was kept by the former beau because it “reminds you of innocence.” Fans surmised that the song was about Swift's doomed relationship with Gyllenhaal, in 2010, with the noticeable age gap - Gyllenhaal was nine years older at the time (Taylor was 20, Jake was 29) - being further proof. The Hollywood actor was also once spotted waring her black scarf. On 10 September, Swift was quizzed about the significance of the scarf at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) where she appeared to talk about the short film. Swift got a little flustered when the scarf came up in questioning. “The scarf is a metaphor, um… And… We turned it red because red is a very important colour in this album, which is called Red,” Swift began. “Um… And I think when I say it’s a metaphor, I’m just going to stop… And I’m going to say thanks for the incredible question to whoever asked it, you’ve really taken us for a ride with that one, thank you,” she added. https://twitter.com/liviolives/status/1568406292619825157 https://twitter.com/PopBase/status/1568397518198931458 Fans are convinced that the interview is finally the confirmation they were seeking. That the scarf in the video represents Swift's virginity. One wrote on social media: “She stopped herself before saying what the metaphor was but girl we know.” Another said: “I cannot believe she confirmed it.” Swift has asserted that the song has “nothing to do with [him Gyllenhaal]” and is instead about her relationship with fans. Gyllenhaal's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, speculated to be the sister mentioned in the song, was asked about the scarf in 2017 and she said she was “in the dark” about it. Swift, who won video of the year at MTV’s annual Video Music Awards for the 10-minute version of 'All Too Well', is currently gearing up to release her new album Midnights on 12 October.
