It is following in the footsteps of Kin and Love/Hate.

Following on from Kin and Love/Hate, another beloved of Irish series will be getting a release in the UK.

That show is Northern Lights, which had its first six-episode season premiere in late 2023 in Ireland on the channel TG4.

The drama is set in Dublin city centre and tells the story of two grieving strangers, Lloyd (series creator and writer Stephen Jones - Love/Hate, Kin) and Áine (Elva Trill - Jurassic World Dominion, Line of Duty).

Their worlds collide when Lloyd notices Áine standing on a bridge on the River Liffey.

"Fearing the worst, he decides to intervene. A series of revelations, confessions, secrets and lies follow leading to Lloyd and Áine becoming beacons of light for one another when they need it most." the plot synopsis reads.

It went on to earn four nominations at this year’s Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTAs), including in the Best TV Drama and Best Script categories.

In a statement about the show, Jones said: “As a proud Dubliner, I’ve always wanted to tell stories of this beautiful city and everyday characters living extraordinary lives.

"We meet Lloyd at a point in his life where everything seems to be spiralling and he is looking for a light in the darkness; something he finds in his unlikely friendship with Áine.

"It is a truly hopeful series, and I am absolutely delighted with how it turned out, it is a dream come true.”

As development of a second season of the show continues, Northern Lights will be available to watch for UK viewers on the streaming service MGM+ from Monday, 20 May.
