Mae Muller has said she is disappointed "but proud" after the UK finished second from bottom at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
Sweden's Loreen won after a strong challenge from Finland's Käärijä, who was a fan favourite at Liverpool Arena. Loreen's win means Sweden equals Ireland’s record seven Eurovision wins. It was also the second time the 39-year-old had won, making her the first woman to do so.
The UK, on 24 points, beat Germany, who were last.
Muller, who sung, 'I Wrote a Song' wrote on Twitter that she did not get the result "we hoped for", but had "put our all into the last few months".
She wrote: “I just want to say thank you. “I know I joke a lot but we really put our all into the last few months, not the result we hoped for but so proud of everyone & what we achieved on this journey.”
She added: “Congrats to all the countries, I’ll never forget this journey and I love you all.”
Eurovision fans were brutal in their assessment of Muller's performance, with one writing that she was "awful live through TV" and that "no one could understand what you sang".
Someone else suggested her son was "flatter than a pancake".
Others were more supportive. One told the performer that she was "sensational and should be extremely proud of yourself".
The 2024 Eurovision will be held in Sweden and coincide with the fact ABBA won 50 years previously in 1974.
