“I’m the godfather of Christmas nowadays.”

Actor Macaulay Culkin has said that he doesn’t in fact consider Die Hard a Christmas film, during a recent interview.

Culkin, who is most popular for his role of beloved Kevin in the first two Home Alone films, gave his take on one of the most discussed topics that always come up around Christmas time.

In an interview for Mythical Kitchen, he said: “No, no it’s not. Don’t fight me!”, when asked one of the most debated film questions, as far as Christmas is concerned.

He is probably entitled to have such an opinion, considering he starred in arguably the most popular Christmas film of all-time.

“It’s based around Christmas, but if it were also St. Patrick’s Day, it would still work. But you couldn’t do ‘Home Alone’ on Memorial Day. It doesn’t work that way”, he said.

“I’m the godfather of Christmas nowadays. My opinion has some sway in this argument”, he added.

Whether the 1988 action classic starring Bruce Willis is a Christmas film or not continues to stir debate.

But the actor isn’t alone in this, as his sentiment is also shared by the Brits.

In a survey with 2,000 participants by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), 44% of them did not consider Die Hard to be a holiday classic.

Meanwhile the film’s director, John McTiernan, said that the intention was not for it to be a holiday classic, but it was so joyed that “it turned into a Christmas movie”.

Even the star of the franchise, now retired American actor Bruce Willis once gave his take on the debate.
