Jonah Hill was hospitalised after sniffing so much fake cocaine during Wolf Of Wall Street

Hill was sick for three weeks

It isn't uncommon for actors to go to extreme lengths for a role, just think about poor Christian Bale's body. For Jonah Hill, the suffering for his craft was a little different. It was the lines. Not his movie lines, though. The 38-year-old was hospitalised from snorting too much fake cocaine while filming The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio in 2012. The actor ended up with bronchitis that stuck around for months, after snorting so much vitamin D powder during filming. Talk about being committed to his lines. Appearing on US talk show Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons in 2016, Hill revealed: "I did so much fake cocaine in Wolf Of Wall Street I got bronchitis for three weeks. I had to be hospitalised." While Hill explained that it was vitamin powder, he said "it doesn't matter because if you ingest that much matter into your lungs, you will get very sick". "We were literally doing fake coke for, like, seven months, every day. I never had more vitamin D in my entire life; I could have lifted a car over my f****** head." Speaking about how he got into character as Donnie Azoff, Hill said: "It's interesting pretending to be on drugs. "I'll use music. I'll make a playlist for every scene, so I'll try to make, like, music that [makes me feel] jittery and chaotic... and then just drink a ton of coffee and Red Bull." As well as sending him to the emergency department, Hill's role in the flick helped him earn the enviable title of actor with most swear words on film. Yeah, Hill beat Samuel L Jackson to the title, and he's pretty proud of the fact. Hill shared a screenshot from an article about his swearing on Instagram, writing: "So many people to thank. @martinscorsese_ thanks for pushing me over the edge. And of course the great @samuelljackson. Humbled. "Also 'new report'? Lol what team of scientists cracked this one?" The article he'd screenshotted was from The Wrap, which referenced analysis from research group Buzz Bingo called 'Profanity on Film'. According to the research, he has used bad language a total of 376 times throughout his filmography, while super sweary guy Jackson trails behind with 301. Motherf*****. Hill has also previously revealed how he did The Wolf of Wall Street for just $60,000 - while DiCaprio took home $10m. The amount was the lowest amount Hill could have been paid for the flick, according to the rules set down by the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG), and accepted it to ensure he'd land the iconic role.
