Joe Thomas remembers the time someone pooed on his tent at a festival

It's happened to us all, right?

You go to a festival, pitch up your tent and some inconsiderate motherfucker cops a squat by your newly erected tent and shits on it. Okay, perhaps it doesn't happen to us all but it's definitely something that's happened to Joe Thomas. The actor, known for playing Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners, stars in new movie The Festival. Sitting down with us to discuss his first real festival experience, it turns out for Thomas it wasn't all sunshine and people wearing flower crowns - it definitely didn't smell of flowers that's for sure. "I think festivals can be pretty grim," he begins. "There's something about that mass of humanity where you're like... it makes you very grateful for plumbing and civilisation." In The Festival there's a scene where Thomas' character gets pissed on and so we wondered if this is something that has ever happened to him in real life. "I haven't been pissed on," he answers. "I've had my tent pooed on. Which is pretty revolting. That was at Reading Festival when I was actually still at school. That was kinda almost the first festival I'd been too so it was like a baptism of shit. "There's just something about the way people treat the environment at a festival that is kind of like, contemptuous. "I suppose people are paid to clean up. It's like the worst sort of house party, and no one respects the house. It's like that, but times a thousand. When it's like, we're just going to destroy the house and a house won't even be able to be built on this site because it's just cursed land now and the house will be haunted." https://twitter.com/JOE_co_uk/status/1027156217058086912 From the creators of The Inbetweeners, The Festival is about friendship, growing up, and going mad in a field. When Nick's (played by Thomas) girlfriend dumps him at graduation, he has a colossal meltdown in front of the entire university. He's convinced his life is over, but his best mate Shane has the perfect solution: three days at an epic music festival. With the help of "festival aficionado" and certified oddball Amy, Shane tries to get Nick to embrace the music, the mayhem and the mud. The Festival arrives in movie theatres August 14th.
