It’s Always Sunny star clears up confusion over Dennis’ future

Alright alright alriiiiight...

This post contains mild spoilers for those who have not seen the most recent season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. At the end of the twelfth season of the hit comedy show, Dennis uncharacteristically decided to leave a life of shenanigans with the gang behind to be a dad. His moment of realisation that he had to mature and fulfill his duties as a father left viewers in an anxious panic about whether the Golden God would return. Two more seasons of the show have been commissioned and viewers are worried by the prospect of the show without one of its main characters. The gang's dynamic would certainly change for the worse without Dennis who, despite being a sociopath, is one of the best characters in the show. Only recently, in an interview with the Television Critics Association, the actor who portrays Dennis, Glenn Howerton said:  “I’ve not officially left yet and I hope people understand that." This sparked excitement that Dennis would definitely return to the show for its final two seasons, but he did not confirm either way whether the character would feature. Dennis leaving the bar was a huge moment in the show and an immediate return would somewhat undermine its significance. He might, he might not, what is certain is that we won't know until we watch it...because of the implication.
