House of the Dragon show-runner confirms when series will end

An update has also been provided on the season 3 production schedule

Speaking at a press event following the release of the season two finale, Condal revealed the Game of Thrones prequel would end after four seasons.

He also provided an update on the schedule for production of season three, revealing the series is currently being written and should start shooting in "earlyish 2025," the Independent reports.

Season two of the HBO drama was made up of eight episodes, down from the 10 in the first season.

When asked if this would be the same for the next season, Condal said: “I haven’t had discussions with HBO about it. I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from season two on.”

House of the Dragon is based on George RR Martin's novel Fire & Blood. Set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the story follows the Targaryen family as they battle for the Iron Throne.

Martin had previously said he believes House of the Dragon would need "four full seasons of 10 episodes" to do justice to his story.

The author acts as a co-creator on the show, and in January he revealed on his personal blog that he had been discussing the “third and fourth seasons” with Condal and the other writers.
