As we mentioned previously, the director of Chappie and Elysium hasn't opted to go into cryosleep and wait for something to happen, because he has channeled his creative energy into his own studio, Oats Studios.
We absolutely loved their first two short films, Rakka and Firebase, but they're back with a new film called Zygote. The short film follows two survivors, Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, Coraline) and Jose Pablo Cantillo (Crank, Taken), at an artic station as they try to survive against an alien/zombie-like creature.
Think Alien meets The Thing and you have it.
To promote the release, Blomkamp has been speaking with the press and he released an absolute doozy regarding his future projects.
Speaking with LRM Online, he said: “District 10 is still going to be made for sure. I would love to make that film for several reasons. There’s another film at Fox that I’m working on at the moment called The Gone World, which I love. I totally want to make those [films].”
In fact, Blomkamp also elaborated on this statement via a Reddit AMA session.
"Ok, so with District 10 the basic answer is yes. I want to go back to that world and tell rest of the story with Wikus and Christopher. The issue right now is that I have many other projects and ideas that I also want to work on and complete..... and most importantly, the exact right REASON to make district 10 needs be very clear. The first film was based so explicitly on real themes and topics from South Africa that effected me greatly growing up there, that we need to make sure the next film does not forget that."
As for his most recent work, you can check it out here.
