"You're learning about a lifestyle that thank God 99% of us don't know about," said Liotta, attempting to explain the film's iconic standing. Paul Sorvino, who played feared caporegime Paul Vario, admitted that he was initially shocked by the level of violence in the script and almost left the production. "I never played anything like that - that kind of a lethal character. Three days before we were about to shoot, I called my manager and said 'Get me out!'" explained Sorvino.
