The mum of Gogglebox star George Gilbey has revealed what his final words to her were before his death.
Gilbey died last month after he fell through a skylight while working on a roof. A coroner heard that he died from traumatic head and torso injuries he suffered after falling from height.
The 40-year-old was well-known for being a regular on Channel 4 series Gogglebox. He appeared on the show alongside his mum Linda McGarry and late stepfather Pete McGarry.
Speaking about her son, McGarry, 74, said he had been doing building jobs to raise money so he could move to closer to his daughter.
She said Gilbey had phoned her just hours before his death, and revealed what his final words to her were.
She told the Sun: "He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working - and asked me for his ‘breakfast money.'
"I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine.
"He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working.
"He ended the phone call by saying, ‘I love you’ like he usually did. I treasure those words."
In her first interview since her son's tragic death, McGarry said: "It was an honour for him to have been my son. We had a blast for 40 years."
The reality TV star had been trying to raise money so he could move closer to his daughter, who lives in South West London with her mum.
"He was going to rent from his friend, Skippy, near to Amelie in Twickenham," his mum said.
“George was on great terms with Gemma and wanted to do things like pick Amelie up from school.
"He wanted to be with Amelie, who he adored.
"They were on the third day of a job that was going to last a month, and he was going to get money together from that.
"When they were together, George and Amelie were always laughing. She is going to miss him terribly, like we all will."
Following his death, a GoFundMe page was set up to cover the cost of his funeral.
More than £7,000 was raised, and last Thursday a private ceremony took place at Weeley Crematorium.
