Since meeting the pointy end of Black" Walder Rivers' blade at the Red Wedding, Game of Thrones fans have always speculated about the return of Catelyn Stark. As you may know, in the books, the mother of the Stark clan returns from the dead and becomes the character Lady Stoneheart - basically, a zombie that has none of the empathetic or forgiving qualities Catelyn Stark did in her first life. She is merciless in her quest for revenge, slaughtering anybody who has any association with those who were responsible for the Red Wedding.
There had even been constant hints by those in the show of her imminent return, when Cersei herself (Lena Headey) posted a pic on Instagram, of a series in rocks in - yep, you guessed it - the shape of a heart.
In an interview with the Chinese edition of Esquire magazine, George R.R. Martin reiterated his wish that the TV show had kept and used the character of Lady Stoneheart.
"In the book, characters can be resurrected. After Catelyn’s resurrection, it was Lady Stoneheart who became a vengeful and merciless killer. In the sixth book, I still continue to write her. She is an important part of the entire book. [Keeping her character] is the change I most wish I could make in the [show],” said Martin.
Despite the fact that she's definitely not coming back, some fans were convinced that they saw her 'ghost' in the most recent episode. Yeah, sure..and Joffrey was just a misunderstood little boy that tried his best!
At least Game of Thrones fans can find some comfort in the fact that Lady Stoneheart will feature in The Winds of Winter...whenever the hell George R.R Martin actually finishes the damn thing!
