A new film that will tell the story of how Sylvester Stallone made his seminal 1976 boxing film Rocky is currently in the works and will be offered to buyers at Cannes.
I Play Rocky will be directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book) and will follow "a struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment who writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead."
"Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role."
As we know, the movie in question went on to be the biggest box office hit of 1976, earning 10 Academy Award nominations and winning Best Picture.
Farrelly will produce the film with Toby Emmerich, the former Warner Bros. film chief, and Christian Baha. Peter Gamble (Office Uprising) penned the screenplay.
As it stands, the casting process is under way as the creators behind the project search for the individual who will play Stallone.
The film will be presented to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival market which starts next week.
Farrelly is hot off the success of the blockbuster comedy Ricky Stanicky, which starred Zac Efron and John Cena.
While there is no official mention of Sylvester Stallone in the official logline for the project, fans will be eager to see if he gets involved after the project is purchased at the Cannes market.
The 77-year-old famously tore into film producers back in 2022 during the making of Creed III, and accused Rocky producer Irwin Winkler of withholding ownership rights to the films.
He wrote on Twitter: "Another Heartbreaker… Just found this out…ONCE AGAIN , this PATHETIC 94 year old PRODUCER and HIS MORONIC USELESS VULTURE CHILDREN, Charles And David, are once again picking clean THE BONES of another wonderful character I created without even telling me …"

"I APOLOGIZE to the FANS , I never wanted ROCKY characters to be exploited by these parasites…"
In less than 24 hours, the post had received hundreds of thousands of likes, with many rushing to show support for the Hollywood superstar.
