Dostoevsky, a new detective thriller drama series, is now available to watch via NOW Entertainment and Sky Atlantic.
The show, which is based in Italy, follows the life and work of policeman Enzo Vitello (Filippo Timi, Vincere) - a man with a troubled past.
Amidst his personal struggles, he finds himself investigating the bloody trail of a ruthless serial killer nicknamed Dostoevsky because of the letters they leave at crime scenes filled with gruesome details.
Haunted by the killer's words, Enzo - helped by a younger detective named Fabio (Gabriel Montesi) - pursues the murderer, "getting closer and closer to the disturbing truth".
Written and directed by the acclaimed Italian filmmakers the D’Innocenzo brothers (America Latina), JOE has checked out the pilot episode of Dostoevsky.
As such, we should warn viewers that the opening episode is an incredibly bleak slow-burn, introducing audiences to Enzo's unhappy existence and the grim particulars of the Dostoevsky case.
That said, thanks to the show's interesting premise, its great performances, its visceral direction and its gorgeously grainy cinematography - fans of similarly dark and moody international detective thriller dramas may want to seek it out.
And based on the trailer for Dostoevsky, we expect the series' pace will pick up over the rest of its six episodes.
Dostoevsky is streaming in its entirety on NOW Entertainment and Sky Atlantic in the UK and Ireland.
