Don’t Look Up smashes Netflix viewership record

Writer-director Adam Mckay tweeted that he was 'straight up flabbergasted'

Netflix's Don't Look Up has utterly smashed the record for the most hours watched in a single week while also ranking as one of the most-watched films ever. Don't Look Up has proven itself to be the marmite of disaster films. The majority of people are in awe of the film but a small portion of people can't stand it. Naturally, those who love the flick have stated the other group are not intelligent enough to understand it. The film, released globally on December 24 on Netflix, follows scientists as they battle a cataclysmic event and fight to be taken seriously by the media and government officials. Regardless of the debate, Don't Look Up reached 152.29 million hours watched during the week of December 27 to January 2. Right out of the gate, the film, starring the likes of Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio, secured 111 million hours viewed. The disaster film has become the third most-watched Netflix original movie of all time - any guesses on the top spot?

Of course, the top place had to go to Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock. Coming in just above Don't Look Up is Red Notice starring Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Deadline has gazed into their viewership crystal ball and believes that if the buzz continues, Don't Look Up could overtake both films to nab the number one spot.
