2013 BBC crime drama mini-series What Remains is now available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
Written by Tony Basgallop (Servant) and Coky Giedroyc (Penny Dreadful), the show sees couple Michael (Russell Tovey, The Sister) and Vidya (Amber Rose Revah, The Punisher) move into a new tenement house where a leaky ceiling leads to the shocking discovery of a body.
It turns out that the remains belong to Melissa Young (recent rising star Jessica Gunning, Baby Reindeer), a young woman who owned the top flat and whose death had been unnoticed for two years.
Detective Len Harper (David Threlfall, Shameless), who is on the verge of the retirement, begins investigating what happened to Melissa. Could one of the other tenants be a suspect?
Comprising of four episodes, What Remains' cast also features Denise Gough (Andor), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) and Steven Mackintosh (Luther).
The series earned some very positive notices when it aired, with many drawing comparisons between it and other 2013 mystery crime drama show Broadchurch.
You can read a sample of some of these glowing reviews for What Remains below:
CultBox: "An enticing mystery, a great ensemble, and a modern take on the manor house murder, except with the body in the loft instead of the pantry... It’s perfect Sunday night fodder."
The Daily Telegraph: "There's been a rash of highly original crime-drama finales this year (Broadchurch, The Fall, Top of the Lake, Southfield) and this wasn't far short of the best."
The Guardian: "Breathes new life into cop drama cliches."
Huffington Post: "While Broadchurch and Southcliffe tapped into the collective effect of a crime on a tight-knit community, What Remains does the opposite - highlights just how it's possible for people to get lost, and stay very alone, in a big city, where close living conditions no longer mean close neighbours, in fact, often the opposite in our desperate struggle for personal space."
What Remains is available to watch in the UK via the BBC iPlayer.
