Conor McGregor has changed the name of his Dublin pub in honour of his new movie which dropped last week.
McGregor’s public house The Black Forge Inn, located in Crumlin, revealed new blue signage with the name Road House over its main entrance.
The movie, which is a remake of the 1989 classic, also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and singer Post Malone and was released worldwide on Prime Video on Thursday (March 21).
Friends and family of McGregor gathered in the pub for a private screening of the film last night, in which the Crumlin native plays a villainous character by the name of Knox who faces off against Gyllenhaal’s character Dalton.
Speaking about the rename, Manager of The Black Forge Inn, Liam Flynn, said: “We’re delighted to bring a little bit of Hollywood to west Dublin as we celebrate Conor’s first ever major role in a blockbuster.
“We might not have the Florida weather but you won’t beat the craic we have here in the Forge and we’re looking forward to raising a pint as we watch Conor raise some hell on the silver screen.”
McGregor got paid €5 million for his role in the film, and was praised by his co-star for his performance.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Gyllenhaal said: “I think we all had great respect for the fight game. Same thing with Conor when he came to the movie set.
“He came in and said: ‘I’m a white belt. I’m here to learn. I don’t know anything about making movies or acting, and I want to learn.’
“That type of humility in that space, I tried to bring the same way in the opposite end. I don’t know that much about the fight game. I have great respect for it, and I wanted to learn.”
Another co-star of McGregor’s Daniela Melchior said she would love to see McGregor star in Peaky Blinders.
“I would love to watch him do something like Peaky Blinders,”she said, adding that his accent would be perfect for it.
It’s been a busy week across the board for McGregor, who also confirmed his return to the Octagon this summer.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, the 35-year-old confirmed that he is heading into fight camp soon and ‘can’t act the bollocks now’.
“The call has been made and we’re a go,” he said.
“This means this summer, the Mac is back. So with I’m happy with my time I’ve got in the lead-up to it, I’m happy with where I’m at, and everything just works out in God’s name.
“And I’m ecstatic where I’m at. I’ve got great news the other day.”
McGregor’s opponent will likely be American fighter Michael Chandler, and could be the headline bout at UFC 303 in Las Vegas at the end of June.
