Amber Heard ‘unable to pay’ the millions in damages as Johnny Depp launches TikTok ‘for comeback’

As the fall out from Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's recently concluded defamation trial continues, lawyers for the former claim the star may be unable to pay what she owes, while the latter has joined TikTok. Last week, a jury ruled in favour of Depp, 58, after he sued his ex-wife Heard, 36, for defamation damages following an opinion piece she wrote on the topic of domestic abuse for The Washington Post in 2018. As a result, Heard was ordered to pay the former Pirates of the Caribbean star $10m in compensatory damages and an additional $5m in punitive damages which case judge Penney Azcarate later reduced to $350,000. Heard herself was awarded $2m in damages after proving one of her counterclaims, bringing the total owed to her former spouse to $8.35m, according to sources such as The Independent. However shortly after the trail concluded, Heard's lawyer Elaine Bredehoft started doing the rounds on various American talk shows where she claimed that her client might be unable to pay Depp the money she owes. When asked by Today show host Savannah Guthrie if Heard could pay Depp the $8.35m, Bredehoft replied: "Oh no. Absolutely not." In addition to these compensatory damages, Bredehoft has also claimed that Heard already owes an additional $6m in legal costs. Meanwhile, funds received from her previous legal battles with Depp - in which Heard was awarded $7m - were believed to have been split between various different charities. As this issue plays out in the public eye, Depp continues to be spotted in various unlikely areas around the UK as he joins musician Jeff Beck on his current tour. Earlier this week, the Ed Wood star even made his TikTok debut, starting an official account and racking up over two million followers - despite the fact he's not even posted any videos yet. Entering the same site where details of his recent defamation case were scrutinised, parodied and picked apart by viewers across the globe, Depp new social media outlet doesn't yet follow any accounts and only contains a bio that says simply: "Occasional thespian" Related links:
