8 massive blockbusters coming out in 2017 we still haven’t seen trailers for

Earlier this week we finally had our first look at the proper trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

While the trailer was pretty sweet (you can check it out here), but in terms of big blockbusters finally getting their first trailers out there, five months before cinema-release in Hollywood-time is cutting it pretty close. Now listen, we're not saying every single movie needs to do what Star Wars: The Force Awakens did and release a trailer a year and a half before the film actually comes out (they learned their lesson - relatively - by dropping The Last Jedi trailer just eight months before the film arrives), but it is pretty much the norm for a big blockbuster to put up their trailer as early possible. We've already got trailers for Geostorm (20 Oct), Thor: Ragnarok (3 Nov), Justice League (17 Nov) and, as mentioned above, The Last Jedi (15 Dec), but there's some big blockbusters inbound that we've yet to get a proper look at.

The Dark Tower

Initial release? 27 July What's Going On? While we were surprised that The Golden Circle left it so close to the September release to drop the trailer, we're even more surprised that this is still slipping under the radar. The last time a movie left the trailer release so close to the actual film release was that god-awful reboot of Fantastic Four. That being said, the Idris Elba/Matthew McConaughey starring thriller based on Stephen King's massively successful series of books did show some early footage to a select few, and word is very positive. Watch this space.

Flatliners

Initial release? 25 September What's Going On? The 1990 original featured Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland, and we're frankly surprised it took them this long to hit the remake button. This time around we've got Ellen Paige, Diego Luna and, uhm, Kiefer Sutherland, and its coming from the director of the original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. We imagine the plot will be really similar, with a group of college kids finding a way to cheat death and visit the "other side", and all of the bad stuff that usually comes with scenarios like that. There's been absolutely no word on it whatsoever, and as you can tell from above, there hasn't even been a poster released for it yet.

The Snowman

Initial release? 13 October What's Going On? Based on the massive Jo Nesbo series of bestsellers, with Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson and J.K. Simmons being directed by the guy who brought us the brilliant Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, this has Oscar potential all over it. It definitely has some Girl With The Dragon Tattoo vibes to it, with Fassbender playing a detective who investigates a murderer who dresses snowmen up in the victim's clothing. Unlike some of the bigger budgeted movies out there, we imagine they'll want to keep a lid on the plot twists in this one. Except for, y'know, everyone who has already read the books...

Saw: Legacy

Initial release? 20 October What's Going On? It has been seven long years since the seventh entry in the franchise - Saw 3D - came and went and the general public kinda begged for the whole thing to stop. Well, just in time for Halloween, it is making a return, and instead of kicking off from scratch, it looks like they're picking up the plot right where it left off, with a group of people being found dead at the hands (or bear-traps) of grizzly devices, and all signs pointing to serial-killer John Kramer aka Jigsaw, despite him being dead for quite a few movies now...

God Particle

Initial release? 27 October What's Going On? We're not even sure this called God Particle anymore, as it is now apparently to be folded into the Cloverfield universe, much like 10 Cloverfield Lane was last year, which just kind of arrived out of nowhere to surprised of everyone. It involves Chris O'Dowd, David Oyelowo, Daniel Bruhl and loads more of international stars as astronauts fighting for their lives on board the space station as their very reality begins to be altered. At the moment we don't even have an image to show you, let alone a poster or a trailer.

Bad Mom's Christmas

Initial release? 2 November What's Going On? Barely a year after the first movie made $184 million on a $20 million budget, the original stars (Mila Kunis and friends) and writer/directors are back to tell the story of the bad moms who - guess what? - have bad moms themselves, and they arrive in time for Christmas to cause seasonal shenanigans. The IMDb page doesn't even say who the bad moms' moms (Bad Grandmoms?) are being played by yet.

Murder On The Orient Express

Initial release? 2 November What's Going On? Kenneth Branagh plays Poirot, as well as directs the most famous of Agatha Christie's stories, as 13 people are all suspected of murder, and the criminal to be found before the train reaches the station. Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad, Dame Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Olivia Colman and Derek Jacobi fill out the passenger list.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

Initial release? 20 December What's Going On? Hoping to differenciate from the original Jumanji with that little subtitle doesn't help matters when you consider The Rock was already in a film called Welcome To The Jungle back in 2003. Anyways, this is a mega-budget reboot button with Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan along for the ride, and will be hoping to take away some of that Christmas-time box-office money from the new Star Wars movie. Good luck with that.
