Brit on holiday beaten with a brick by gang before being thrown in the sea unconscious

A group of British lads were savagely attacked on holiday in Croatia, with one man taking the brunt of the attack and being thrown into the ocean while unconscious. Lewis Thomson, from Grangemouth, Scotland, was holidaying with four friends in Split, the largest city on the Croatian coast. According to the Daily Record, Thomson and his mates were attacked by a gang of 20 on their first day, with Thomson being repeatedly kicked, stamped on and hit in the face with a brick. The group had been separated while trying to evade their attackers but sadly, Thomson couldn't get away. Following the attack, the man was taken to hospital. Doctors soon discovered that the Brit had suffered a tear in his lung, two broken ribs and bad facial injuries. He is still in hospital, joined by worried family members who flew over to join him. He is expected to fly home in around two weeks' time. [caption id="attachment_346031" align="alignnone" width="1424"] Via GoFundMe[/caption] The British Consulate was able to get emergency insurance to cover Thomson's medical bills and a friend has set up a GoFundMe page to cover his family's travel and accommodation costs. At the time of writing, the fundraiser has amassed £4,260. "As you can imagine, this is everyone's worst nightmare," reads the statement. "Your kid in hospital in a foreign country, nobody can communicate with you, you can't get answers or speak to them and their friends are not allowed in to see them." It continued: "Once Lewis's family were notified they arranged to fly out to Croatia. The British Consulate was brilliant and managed to sort out emergency insurance to cover the emergency medical costs. "However, the costs for Lewis's family travelling and staying for an unknown amount of time is something none of us prepare for. "I hope you understand and appreciate the difficult situation they have found themselves in and can help relieve some of the pressure and costs on them.
